Squaw Peak 50 Mile Endurance Run

Squaw Peak 50 Mile Trail Run. Held the first Saturday in June
A week from this Saturday I’ll be running in the Squaw Peak 50 miler. This will be my 8th running of the race. So far I have started 7 times and finished 7 times. Hopefully I can keep my streak alive and go 8 for 8. My goal is to become a 10 time finisher at Squaw Peak.
From what I hear the course is pretty much snow free which should make for a great race. The only thing that could slow any lead runners down or the whole field of runners for that matter is the heat. We have had a warm spring…warmer than usual and the warm weather hasn’t let up this spring. I’m definitely not complaining…I’ve really enjoyed the weather this spring. As of right now the race day forecast (June 2nd) is upper 80s. So it might be hot one.
I don’t plan on getting a PR this year. I’m just looking to finish. But I’m looking forward to running the race with my sister Jami, my brother-in-law Jon, his brother Roy, my brother Caleb and my Dad. I don’t think we’ll all stay together during the race, but it’s fun knowing that we are all out on the course at the same time.

Brian Beckstead who will also be running the Squaw Peak 50 wrote a nice pre-race report on his blog Ultra Experience that gives some details on who will most likely be contending for the top spot in the race. Along with that he gives some details on what the course looks like for this year’s race.
Here is a fun video of the Squaw Peak 50 from the 2010 race. In this video there is snow, but this year (2012) there won’t be any snow like you see in this video. This video also gives you a good idea of what the whole course looks like and what to expect if you’re running this race for the first time.
